When we use a verb in place of a Noun, that is known as Gerund. How is a Gerund formed? By adding 'ing' in the verb's first form. The three different ways in which Gerunds can be used are : 1) they can act as a Subject in a Sentence 2) they act as an object in a sentence 3) they are used as a compliment of 'to be' verb. What is an Infinitive ? An infinitive is the "to" form of the verb. That means an infinitive is made by using "to" before the verb. An Infinitives can be used as Nouns, Adjectives, or Adverbs. Now what is a participle ? It is not the main verb in the sentence . It functions as an adjective in the sentence. There are three kinds of participles in English: present participle, past participle and perfect participle. I hope you have now understood the difference between Finite and Non finite verbs.
