Joe Rigby, a working-class Catholic boy from Birmingham, rose from humble beginnings to become a prominent television executive. After leaving school at fifteen, he served as Granadas head of programme planning for twenty years, nurturing talented scriptwriters who later achieved great success. Known for his keen eye for talent, he hired Jim Grant, who became the bestselling author Lee Child. Rigbys love for Granadas northern identity led him to advocate for their programs and travel internationally as an ambassador. He retired in 1994 and passed away at the age of eighty-seven, leaving behind his wife, children, grandchildren, and a legacy in the television industry.
