In the second episode of Making an Impact, Katie sits down with Megan Turner, Environment and Sustainability Manager at the Port of Dover, to discuss her work within the maritime industry, and the impact it's having in making cross-channel travel greener and more sustainable.
Megan talks Katie through the port's "green corridor", and how they're working with the ports in Calais and Dunkirk to reach zero emission operations, before talking through the process of their ambition to have net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by the end of 2025, and what Scope 3 emissions look like for the port.
Katie asks Megan about electrification of the port, where Megan explains the difficulties ports across the UK are having with increasing the capacity of their connections to the grid to supply the power their clients and customers would require to go fully electric, before discussing how the Port of Dover being a trust port makes the procurement of the necessary infrastructure makes it even more of a challenge.
Looking at Megan's career on a personal level, Katie dives into Megan's background in Marine Biology, and how wanting to make a difference each day as a child has led her to where she is making an impact today.
