Welcome! My name is Cassie Blandford. I am a graduate from Murray State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in food, nutrition, and dietetics. This podcast is for dietetic students who are either focusing on their undergrad, just graduated and going into an internship, or those studying for their exam. I will be talking about subjects such as what options we have as dietitians and I will also be having “student sessions” which will review medical nutrition therapy for diseases. Once I begin my own internship, I will do recaps of the week to help prepare others for their own internships!

Bariatric Surgery

Hi guys! Today I am discussing bariatric surgery. I cover the criteria for the surgery, the five types of surgery, the benefits and risks, the pre-surgical nutrition eval, nutritional impacts, the nutritional and medical management post-op, dumping syndrome, and the long-term nutrition and medical management. I end this episode with an example of an ADIME note for this particular patient as well. I loved covering this topic and I really recommend further research if you find this interesting!
