How can different people hear the same thing but respond in dramatically different ways? Jesus answers that question in Matthew 13 in the parable of the sower. The four types of soil in the text represent the four types of listeners. As we read this text may we all ask ourselves what Jesus wants us to ask, “How are we receiving the word of the kingdom? Are we allowing the word of the kingdom to take root in our hearts or are we keeping things at surface level?”
