An affair triad involves the three people impacted by the affair:

• One who is in a committed relationship or marriage and engages in secret intimacy outside of the relationship.

  
  

• The partner or spouse in a committed relationship or marriage whose partner or spouse interacts with someone outside the marriage or relationship intimately and in secret.

  
  

• The person outside a committed relationship or marriage who is intimately and secretly involved with someone in a committed relationship or marriage.

  
  

  Though each person within the triad experiences emotional pain the experience is different depending upon the person's position within the triad.
