A Conversation with Kate Tsyrklevich of Heartwood Haven
Heartwood Haven fights the disastrous effects of animal cruelty through rescue, education and sanctuary to promote a more compassionate world for animals and humans. Heartwood Haven focuses on farm animals and also helps laboratory animals who have been released post research. You might have read about their efforts in finding homes for close to 100 roosters who were rescued from a cock fighting ring. Most have found homes but some homes are still needed. There are many ways you can help, including volunteering at their farm in Roy, Washington… or donating via their website: www.heartwoodhaven.org (original air date 05/13/25) See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this conversation, Marilyn and Eric talk about a few topics that resonate, from losing a pet (when/if you get another and how that might look) to catios (outdoor cat spaces that provide safety) to the new sloth-themed store in Magnolia, Robot vs. Sloth, that gives back to worthwhile causes as well. Perhaps there’s a tidbit here that will be meaningful or useful to YOU. Listen to Marilyn’s show, Love Has Many Faces, Tuesday mornings at 9am Pacific Time (on air or online) or on the Love Has Many Faces podcast. Love Has Many Faces
A Conversation with Melanie Ryan of Beck’s Place
Imagine that you are in a situation where you are unable to care for your pet temporarily. Maybe you are in the hospital for surgery or treatment. Maybe you are trying to leave a domestic violence situation, or get help for substance abuse.. Or perhaps you are facing losing your home due to rent being raised or your building being sold. It makes it MUCH harder to deal with these situations when you’re worried about what will happen to your beloved pet. Many people choose not to get treatment they might need unless their pet is safe. Beck’s Place helps place animals in temporary foster homes throughout the Puget Sound region while their owners are getting the help they need. 90% of these pets are reunited with their owners once things get better.   Beck’s Place serves clients in Snohomish County and they are having a special event on Monday Sept. 15th. Join in person, or online for the auction only. And learn more about this event, and their wonderful ongoing work, at www.becksplace.org See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A Conversation with Lori Cohen of The Beagle Alliance
The Beagle Alliance is a rescue and advocacy group working to reduce and eventually end animal testing, and also working to find homes for animals who have been released from laboratory research. Although The Beagle Alliance operates in Canada they also work in tandem with rescue and advocacy partners in the US. Our conversation touches on reasons why animal testing is still being done even though it’s often not relevant or useful, and on what we can each do to help educate and inform more people about viable alternatives. Learn more at www.thebeaglealliance.org See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

We welcome returning guest Annette Lanker, an expert in pet CPR and overall pet care, for a discussion of safety and comfort tips for your pet during the July 4th weekend, and other “high intensity” or loud noise events like NY Eve or even thunderstorms. Love Has Many Faces
A conversation with Rise (rhymes with Lisa) Windell, Photographer at Windell Portraits.
A conversation with Rise (rhymes with Lisa) Windell, Photographer at Windell Portraits.   In 2021, after losing her beloved black Lab Layla suddenly and unexpectedly, Rise found a way to channel some of the profound grief she was feeling. Since Labs are often known for being hungry food lovers, she remembered thinking “NO one should go hungry” so she set out to raise money for the Nourish Pierce County Food Banks, so far raising over $23,000.    Rise uses her PawPrints promotions periodically to raise money for the food banks. She is a pet photographer and PawPrints is the name she coined for a style of photography she does. To quote: “ I lie under a glass platform with my camera and photograph pets from underneath them for a unique perspective. I collaborate with Notre Dog Academy owner/trainer Stephanie Beausoleil. She positions the pets on the glass and gets them to look toward the camera for me. Lots of treats are involved. So much fun.”   Rise also loves to photography pets with their humans so that long after they have left us we will still have beautiful and heartwarming photos to help remember them.   Learn more at www.windellportraits.com See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Love Has Many Faces
A conversation with author Rebecca Schaper
AFTER THE SUDDEN, UNEXPECTED PASSING OF REBECCA'S DOG GUS She consulted animal communicator Sunny Mann, beginning a lengthy and revealing correspondence. Sunny reported her dialogue with Gus in the afterlife at various times throughout the next year. This moving story includes the transcripts of those psychic sessions, along with Rebecca's notes from her daily journal as she responds to both earthly and spiritual guidance from Gus. His spirit describes his life in both worlds, and he urges her to embrace fully her life contract as a shamanic practitioner and healer. Rebecca’s book is called “Roses to Rainbow: My Dog Gus in the Afterlife.” Learn more about Rebeca’s work at www.rebeccaschaper.com See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Love Has Many Faces
A Conversation with Jenny Hubbard of The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation
We are always so pleased to welcome back returning guest Jenny Hubbard of the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation. This organization was founded in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy, where Catherine lost her life. Catherine was a lover of all animals and living creatures and always wanted the animals to know that she was kind and they’d be safe with her. Support grew and donations of money and land led to the creation of the sanctuary. Today’s conversation focuses on the work the foundation is doing, which emphasizes kindness and compassion for all creatures, the first building about to be completed on the property (Catherine’s Learning Barn) and Catherine’s Butterfly Party which is held on the Saturday closest to Chaterine’s birthday each year. This year it will be held on June 7th. There are opportunities to volunteer and donate and to learn more please visit www.cvhfoundation.org  See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Conversation with Diane Tilstra, Tacoma Pierce Country Humane Volunteer/Fostering
In today’s conversation Diane shares about the huge need for fostering, especially in the Tacoma area, and also about her own experiences as a foster mom and finally a “foster failure” having adopted Sammy, a 98 pound bundle of love. We touch on the reasons why there is such a much larger need now, including rising costs for vet care, and also people adopting animals during the pandemic only to turn them back in when they got busy with work again. Education and managing expectations are all important. If you’d like to learn more, or lend your support as a donor or volunteer, please visit https://www.thehumanesociety.org/about-us/      Learn more about your ad choices. The goal is to reach diverse communities including those where a language or culture barrier might make it more difficult than usual to find the needed resources during such stressful times.   The organization helps with providing grants to people to offset medical costs, as well as online and in-person support groups for all those dealing with what can be a difficult and expensive disease. While Toby’s Hope currently serves just Washington pet parents, and only focuses on dogs with lymphoma, their hope is to branch out and provide care for additional cancers as the organization grows.  Learn more about Toby’s Hope, and also how you might be able to help, at www.tobyshope.org  You can also find them on Facebook.
