In this first full episode of Lost Appalachia, we’re stepping straight into one of the oldest and strangest legends in the southern mountains — the story of the Nunnehi.

Were they protectors, spirits, or something that walked the line between myth and reality? The Cherokee said they lived inside the mountains, appearing in times of danger, guiding lost travelers, and vanishing without a trace.

We’ll explore who the Nunnehi were said to be, where they supposedly lived, and why so many people across Appalachia still talk about strange lights and voices coming from beneath the ridgelines.
