Sensational Sticker Collage: artist Tirzah Finley on Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Passion on LI
The latest Local Issues (LI) features Tirzah Finley of Sensational Sticker Collage -- the only one in the world doing artwork like this completely out of stickers. Please subscribe https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsLCf3hL6779y8nn2DdnWtg?sub_confirmation=1Visit the website at Irving Steel https://irvingsteel.com/Visit the Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/tfinleydesigns and use coupon code 668KTV for 15% off!The video "Sensational Sticker Collage: artist Tirzah Finley on Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Passion on LI" features an interview on the Local Issues show with host Irving Steel and artist Tirzah Finley. Finley discusses her unique art form of creating layered sticker collages using transparent stickers sourced from Temu, which she arranges on card stock to form vibrant landscapes and nature-inspired scenes. She highlights her creative process, which involves spontaneous layering without pre-planning, often starting with larger background stickers and adding detailed elements until satisfied. Her works, typically 12x12 inches but also including bookmarks and other sizes, are sold through her Etsy shop, T. Finley Designs, and local Connecticut stores like No Other Book Like This and Golden Owl.Finley shares how her art emerged from necessity during personal challenges, including chronic pain and a divorce, leading her to innovate with stickers to decorate a nightstand for her daughter, sparking her signature style. She believes she’s the only artist globally creating landscapes exclusively with transparent stickers, a claim she finds surreal. Her pieces, like Dark Academia, Riviera, and Taken, often evoke specific themes or places (e.g., Amsterdam or Mount Everest), blending improvisation with intentionality, with creation times ranging from one to three hours. She also addresses environmental concerns, noting the plastic backings of her stickers and her efforts to offset this through events like the Earth Day Expo. Finley discusses the impact of AI, suggesting that AI-generated stickers on Temu expand her creative options without ethical concerns about stealing from other artists. However, she expresses worry about potential tariffs on Chinese imports, as Temu is her primary sticker source, and disruptions could threaten her business.Follow On:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CateSteelForCT/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/catesteel_for_ct/Twitter: https://twitter.com/catesteelThank you for watching the video. Culture as a Bridge between East and West: Juner and Mark on Local ISsues hosted by Irving Steel
Local artists, Juner and Mark Patnode, share their experiences of using culture as the "universal language" to help build more bridges between the East and the West, China and America. As Mark profoundly states "Wo ai ni zhong guo, wo ai ni mei guo" or translated to "I love you China, I love you America" which helps to show his deep appreciation and love for both countries. With election just three weeks away, it was imperative for us to encourage people to register to vote and get out there to vote in the upcoming elections. Mark stated that he has no political affiliation with any set party, but that he really wishes that America could get away from the divisiveness that is hampering the development of our country. Juner and Mark have a show going on right now at the Norwich Art Cooperative, and everyone is invited to come join and participate.

Immigration Importance, Loving One Another, and Building People Up: Rev. Jean-Fritz on Local Issues
The election is "silly season" as the Rev. Jean-Fritz comments regarding the upcoming elections in America. With roughly 48 days to go until election, politicians are throwing out baseless claims to attract attention while denigrating entire communities of hardworking Americans. Is it better to let these thoughts and ideas subside, or to stand up against the falsities and provide an element of truth, dignity, and respect in our society? Isn't it imperative that the leaders we elect into office -- especially the potential President of the United States -- be held to the highest of standards of ethics, respect, and morality? The VP Candidate recently explained to the press that they were pushing false claims against immigrants just to bring attention to the subject and to their campaign. This level if disingenuousness is absurd. If marketing students were assigned tasks, they would likely fail the class to use immoral strategies such as these. The Rev. Jean-Fritz speaks with host Irving Steel on a variety of issues including the importance of diversity in thought and how it actually enables innovation. There are millions of jobs created by immigrants each year and millions of dollars are put forth into the economy through immigrants. It is imperative that we as a society work to "first seek to understand" as Stephen Covey has said in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. We as a society must better seek to understand the amazing diversity of people and citizens in our community and the unique resources that they provide for our country. It is only by understanding and respecting these differences that America can come closer together and become a stronger nation. We must continue to work hard to rise by lifting up others in our community. Listen in as the Rev. speaks to the importance of building a better, stronger community together.

Spedaliere discusses his role overseeing veteran services offices throughout Connecticut, which assist veterans and their families with claims and benefits. He emphasizes the importance of veteran service officers (VSOs) in guiding veterans through the process of filing for benefits, ensuring they receive proper assistance without any charges. The discussion covers various veteran benefits, including VA healthcare, compensation for service-related injuries, and support programs for transitioning back to civilian life. Spedaliere also highlights the need for veterans to join organizations like the American Legion and VFW, which advocate for veteran rights and benefits. The video underscores the complexities of navigating veteran benefits and the essential support provided by VSOs.The newly appointed Veterans Services Supervisor, Paul Spedaliere, always strives to go above and beyond for the Veterans that he's servicing and working for. He's working for the State of Connecticut in the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Office of Advocacy and Assistance. Many Veterans are overwhelmed as they transition from military life to civilian life, and even through the Transition Assistance Program (TAP), there are many benefits and services available to Veterans that they don't always avail themselves of. Paul works with a team of specialists trained and certified to walk Veterans through the process of receiving health benefits, insurance, disability claims, job placement, housing assistance, and more.Paul recognizes the enormous sacrifice that veterans have made to serve the country and tries to do whatever is possible to ensure that veterans receive the needed support and benefits. Paul works throughout the five congressional districts in Connecticut and within each district, there is an office dedicated to service the Veterans throughout that region. Recently, the district hired two additional staff members to help support veterans throughout the state. There are always opportunities and options to help better support Veterans. Going away for many years and coming back to your old surroundings and people you used to interact with can be very challenging. Paul and his team of dedicated staff try to make it a little easier for the Veterans throughout the transition to civilian life. There are always opportunities to volunteer. If viewers are interested in helping veterans throughout the region or state, please reach out to their office. There are Veteran volunteers in each of the 169 towns and municipalities throughout the state.Host Irving Steel.Follow On:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CateSteelForCT/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/catesteel_for_ct/Twitter: https://twitter.com/catesteelThank you for watching the video.
