1 King 2:1-9 (Part 1)
In this passage in 1 Kings chapter 2, David , God's chosen and anointed King, is now ready to pass the baton to his son Solomon.
This wise, this experienced veteran, this anointed King, what will he say to his son Solomon? What wisdom will he give? What will he deliver
He anchored his talk on four foundational principles.
1. Courageous Walk
2. Careful Change
3. Complex Friendships
4. Conscious wisdom
Today in part 1, let's look at Courageous walk.
Courageous walk (verse 2): He said, I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man.If I put it down in my own words, I would say, my son, just like everyone on this earth, I am going to die. Therefore be strong and take up the responsibility like a grown-up. I believe when David said to be strong and show yourself a man, he wanted Solomon to deal with three things.
* "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase; take the first step." Said Martin Luther King Jr.*
We cannot be a person who allows fear to grip and rob our inner security. No. We need to allow faith to fuel our inner security. We need to believe in the timeless truth that we are here in this world because of a definite purpose of God over our lives. You read it right—a definite purpose of God over our lives. Yes. There should be no second thought to this.
The question is NOT whether there is a definite purpose in our lives. The bigger question we need to ask is whether I believe in that definite purpose of God over my life. Or am I sulking and walking daily, feeling insecure and inferior? No! I need to keep rescripting in my daily walk and walk by faith. There is no other way. Fear will only make us stranded and stuck.
2. Others Scrutiny: His subordinates, soldiers, and even people of the land can start to compare Solomon with his father, David. Of-course. The mighty anointed King David ruled the kingdom with such courage and Godliness.
Of-course people will start to compare.
Don't compare yourself to others. There's no comparison between the sun and the moon. They shine when it's their time. -Unknown
We cannot be someone who allows others' scrutiny and comparisons to stop us in our tracks. We are not how others view and what others say. We have a definite purpose and preciousness (uniqueness) over our lives, and we need to hold on to that.
Suppose I die tonight (I will not before God's appointed time:), no one in this world can replace me. FULL STOP. Yes. I not only have a definite purpose over my life. It is also a unique one.
Do we believe it, or do we consider ourselves as one among the hundred? We need to know and believe that we are not just one among the HUNDRED. No. WE ARE ONE among the hundred.
3. His Insecurity: Solomon can quickly compare himself to his father, David and begin to feel insecure. We cannot be insecure, damaged sloths. Insecurity can rob us.
Get this. Your inner compass of restedness and security calibrates your Inner Script. And your Inner script is either anchored in God's voice or other voices - the voice of Doubt, of Anxiety, of Inadequacy, of Discouragement, of Loneliness – and MANY other voices!
You have a unique purpose in your life. You have a definite purpose in your life. Your Heavenly Father believes in you, and He is cheering you.
If I sum it up, we need to deal with our inner script in any new beginnings. If we listen to God's voice, other voices will fade off. But if we listen to other voices, God's voice would be drowned out! We master our Inner Script by deciding WHICH VOICE we would listen to!
Which voice are YOU listening to?
