Today we’re diving into one of Nellie Oleson’s greatest hits (of villainy): The Talking Machine! Where nothing says "I love you" more than...SCIENCE.

Laura gets bamboozled by 1800s high-tech: a talking machine (a phonograph!) that repeats what you say—perfect for confessing your secret crushes, unless that machine falls into the wrong hands. Which it does. (Cue Nellie). Chaos, blushing, and frontier-level pre-teen drama ensue, proving once again that nothing spreads faster than gossip in a town with 12 people and no Wi-Fi.

Laura and Nellie find themselves pining for the same older, blonde man, Miss Beadle sees no issue with sending kids into a lightning storm, and Laura kills yet another tree—all in the name of love.
