Do you tend to have more negative or positive thoughts?
For most of us, the answer is negative.
That's partly because of the negativity bias. This is an innate cognitive bias that results in adverse events having a more significant impact on your psychological state than positive events.
It means that you tend to give more importance to negative experiences than to positive experiences, and that you tend to focus on the negative even when the negative experiences are insignificant and inconsequential.
The negativity bias therefore has a very powerful impact on your behaviour and thoughts, but being aware of it means that you can start to take proactive steps to adopt a more positive outlook on life and ensure that you overcome your brain's (annoying) fixation on bad things!
Learning about the negativity bias was an absolute game changer for me and on this episode I share a key practice that can help you to overcome it.
