S2 E4: Food and Disability with Chloe Timms

In the latest episode of Life in Food with Laura Price, I speak about Food and Disability with Chloe Timms, a novelist, podcaster and campaigner who lives with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Chloe is the author of the feminist dystopian novel The Seawomen, as well as the host of Confessions of a Debut Novelist, a brilliant podcast where she interviews first-time authors like myself about their writing process. In the episode, we talk about how Chloe's disability affects her relationship with food, how restaurants can better serve disabled customers, and how fiction can allow us to escape the restrictions of everyday life.

About Chloe Timms: Chloe Timms is a writer from the Kent coast. After a career in teaching, Chloe studied for an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Kent and won a scholarship for the Faber Academy where she completed their six-month novel writing course. Chloe is passionate about disability rights, having been diagnosed with the condition Spinal Muscular Atrophy at 18 months old, and has campaigned on a number of crucial issues. The Seawomen is her first novel.

About the host: Laura Price is a multilingual journalist who travels the world writing about restaurants. A proud Yorkshire lass at heart, she spent several years in Latin America before settling in London with her two cats. Her first novel, Single Bald Female, was inspired by her experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer at 29. A novelist by day and a food writer by night, Laura combines her two passions into this podcast, bringing out powerful stories of survival and healing in a language that everyone understands – food.
