Colossians 3:10-14 | Week 12

Colossians 3:10-14 | November 9, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful exploration of Colossians 3:10-14, we discover what it truly means to dress ourselves spiritually. Just as we carefully choose our physical clothing each day, Scripture calls us to an intentional wardrobe change of the soul. The passage presents a radical transformation: we're not just being tweaked or improved, but renewed from the inside out, being conformed to the very image of God Himself. What makes this particularly profound is that Paul uses the aorist tense, indicating a once-and-for-all decision. This isn't about trying harder or doing better; it's about making a decisive commitment to put on Christ. The eight garments we're called to wear—compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, bearing with one another, forgiveness, and love—aren't just nice suggestions for better behavior. They're the actual characteristics Jesus displayed during His earthly ministry. When we wear these spiritual clothes, we're literally putting on Christ Himself. The passage also reminds us that at the foot of the cross, all human barriers dissolve. Whether Jew or Gentile, educated or uneducated, slave or free, we all stand equal before God. This was revolutionary in Paul's time and remains countercultural today. The binding element that holds this entire spiritual wardrobe together is love—not sentimental feelings, but the deliberate choice to give someone what they need most when they deserve it least, at great personal cost to ourselves.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
Colossians 3:5-9 | Week 11

Colossians 3:5-9 | November 2, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

This powerful message from Colossians 3:5-9 confronts us with an uncomfortable but necessary truth: genuine faith requires radical transformation. The passage presents Christianity not as a mere belief system, but as an 'extreme makeover' of our entire being. We're challenged to 'put to death' and 'put off' the old patterns that once defined us—sexual immorality, greed, anger, malicious speech, and deception. What makes this teaching so compelling is its honest acknowledgment that while we've died to sin's penalty through Christ, sin's power still battles within us daily. The message doesn't shy away from specific sins that entangle believers, organizing them into three categories: perverted body (sexual sins), perverted heart (covetousness, anger, wrath, malice), and perverted tongue (slander, obscene talk, lying). Yet amid this sobering inventory of human brokenness, we find liberating hope: our past is truly past. When we confess and turn from sin, we're not defined by yesterday's failures. The call isn't to perfectionism but to daily, deliberate choices to kill sin before it kills us—to take off the 'dirty clothes' of our former life and prepare to wear the righteousness Christ offers.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
Colossians 3:1-4 | Week 10

Colossians 3:1-4 | October 26, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

This powerful message from Colossians 3:1-4 challenges us to shift our focus from the temporary to the eternal, from the 'now' to the 'then.' We're reminded that as Christ followers, we're called to be heavenly distracted—to seek the things above where Christ sits at the right hand of God, and to set our minds on eternal realities rather than earthly distractions. The sermon unpacks two foundational pleas and two transformative promises. First, we're commanded to seek continuously—with pesky persistence—the things that are above, not giving up despite life's billion distractions. Second, we're called to set our minds on heaven, to think heaven, to be so preoccupied with eternity that we pull into our driveways wondering what it will be like to walk streets of gold rather than rehearsing tomorrow's worries. The promises are equally stunning: our lives are hidden with Christ in God, safe and secure in the shelter of the Almighty, and when Christ appears in glory, we will appear with Him. This isn't just theological theory—it's the anchor that transforms how we live today. When we hold earthly things loosely and eternal things tightly, we find freedom from the tyranny of the immediate and discover the joy of living for what truly lasts.

Colossians 2:16-23 | Week 9

Colossians 2:16-23 | October 19, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful message, we're challenged to examine the difference between man-made religion and a genuine relationship with Christ. The sermon delves into Colossians 2, exposing the dangers of legalism, mysticism, and asceticism. We're reminded that these practices, while appearing spiritual, often lead to self-righteousness and pride rather than true godliness. The key takeaway is that our salvation and spiritual growth come from Christ alone, not from following rigid rules, seeking mystical experiences, or inflicting suffering on ourselves. As believers, we're called to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, understanding that He is the substance behind all religious shadows. This message encourages us to evaluate our own faith practices, ensuring we're not substituting religious activities for a living, breathing relationship with our Savior.

Colossians 2:11-15 | Week 8

Colossians 2:11-15 | October 12, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful message, we explore the transformative reality of being 'in Christ.' Drawing from Colossians 2:11-15, we discover three profound spiritual truths about our past in Christ: we've been spiritually circumcised, buried, and raised with Him. This isn't mere symbolism, but a deep spiritual reality that fundamentally changes who we are. The message challenges us to grasp the magnitude of this transformation - we're no longer slaves to sin, but alive in Christ! As we delve into our present realities in Christ, we're reminded that God has made us spiritually alive, forgiven all our sins, and given us victory over evil forces. The vivid imagery of our sins being 'nailed to the cross' serves as a powerful reminder of the complete forgiveness we have in Jesus. This message urges us to live in the freedom and victory that Christ has secured for us, encouraging a life of confident faith and joyful obedience.

Colossians 2:6-10 | Week 7

Colossians 2:6-10 | October 5, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful message, we're called to examine our spiritual walk and guard against the subtle dangers of worldly philosophies. The key scripture, Colossians 2:6-10, reminds us to 'walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him.' This passage warns us about being taken captive by empty deceit and human traditions that aren't aligned with Christ. We're challenged to reflect on how we received Christ initially - with humility, surrender, and joy - and to continue living that way daily. The message draws an interesting parallel between spiritual kidnapping and physical captivity, emphasizing the grave danger of straying from Christ's teachings. As believers, we're encouraged to develop deep roots in God's Word, remain teachable, and overflow with gratitude. This serves as a powerful defense against the allure of humanistic thinking that can lead us astray. The relevance for our lives is clear: we must stay alert, discerning truth from error, and remember that in Christ, we have all we need for life and godliness.

Colossians 2:1-5 | September 28, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful exploration of Colossians 2:1-5, we're challenged to develop courageous hearts and convictional minds in our faith journey. The apostle Paul's struggle and agony for believers he's never met reminds us of the depth of Christian love and the importance of spiritual encouragement. We're called to be 'knit together in love,' forming a tight-knit community that stands firm against false teachings and plausible arguments that threaten to lead us astray. The message emphasizes that all wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ, urging us to seek Him above all else. This passage invites us to reflect on our own convictions about Jesus and how firmly we're willing to stand for truth in a world full of deceptive ideologies. Are we ready to live for Christ, not just in moments of crisis, but in our everyday lives? This teaching challenges us to step into the arena of faith with courage, conviction, and clarity, reminding us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces that seek to undermine our faith.

Colossians 1:19-23 | Week 4

Colossians 1:19-23 | September 14, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful message, we explore the profound concept of reconciliation through Christ. The key scripture, Colossians 1:20-23, reveals how Jesus has reconciled all things to God through His blood on the cross. This reconciliation isn't just about forgiveness; it's a complete transformation of our relationship with God. We were once alienated and hostile, but now we're presented as holy and blameless before Him. This incredible change in status reflects the depth of God's love and the power of Christ's sacrifice. The message challenges us to consider our own need for reconciliation and to embrace the peace that Christ offers. It's a reminder that in a world full of conflict and division, we have access to true, lasting peace through our relationship with God. As we reflect on this, we're called to stand firm in our faith, knowing that our reconciliation is not just a past event, but an ongoing reality that shapes our present and future.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
Colossians 1:9-13 | Week 2

Colossians 1:9-13 | August 31, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful exploration of Colossians 1:9-14, we're invited to delve into the transformative power of prayer and the profound impact of God's will in our lives. The passage reminds us that our spiritual growth isn't just about accumulating knowledge, but about allowing that knowledge to shape our actions and character. We're challenged to pray for a 'full mind' - not just surface-level understanding, but deep, spiritual wisdom that comes from God. This wisdom isn't meant to remain theoretical; it should lead us to a 'worthy walk' that pleases God and bears fruit in every aspect of our lives. The imagery of being transferred from the 'domain of darkness' into God's 'kingdom of light' serves as a powerful reminder of our salvation and the radical change Christ brings to our lives. As we reflect on this, we're encouraged to live with gratitude, recognizing that our qualification for God's inheritance comes not from our own efforts, but from Christ's work on our behalf.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
Colossians 1:1-2 | Week 1

Colossians 1:1-2 | August 24, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful exploration of the book of Colossians, we're reminded of the paramount importance of being 'in Christ.' This phrase, used over 160 times by Paul, is not just a theological concept but a vital spiritual reality. We're challenged to examine whether we're truly 'in Christ' or merely 'into Christ.' The difference is profound - it's the difference between genuine salvation and mere religious interest. As we delve into Paul's words, we're confronted with the sobering truth that being outside of Christ is the most dangerous place to be spiritually. Yet, for those in Christ, there's an incredible hope - a treasure laid up in heaven that's imperishable and unfading. This message urges us to anchor our faith firmly in Christ, not just as an intellectual assent, but as a life-changing commitment that manifests in love for all saints and an unshakeable hope for eternity.c

James 5:19-20 | Week 18

James 5:19-20 | August 10, 2025 | Pastor Josh Goertzen

In this powerful message, we're challenged to consider our responsibility in restoring those who have wandered from their faith. The book of James reminds us that we all share this crucial task within the body of Christ. It's not just about our own spiritual journey, but about caring deeply for those around us. The imagery of a boulder rolling down a mountain vividly illustrates how sin can quickly spiral out of control. Yet, there's hope. We're called to lovingly pursue those who've strayed, offering them the precious rewards that come with returning to Jesus - salvation from spiritual death and the covering of a multitude of sins. This message urges us to cultivate meaningful relationships within our church community, allowing us to notice when someone begins to wander and to act with love and urgency. It's a call to move beyond Sunday attendance and truly invest in each other's spiritual well-being.

James 5:13-18 | Week 17

James 5:13-18 | August 3, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In this powerful exploration of James 5, we're reminded of the extraordinary power of prayer in our lives. The message emphasizes that prayer isn't just for specific times or places, but a continuous conversation with God throughout all seasons of life - whether we're suffering or rejoicing. We're encouraged to approach prayer not as a magical formula, but as an act of faith aligned with God's will. The story of Elijah praying for rain illustrates how even ordinary people can see extraordinary results through fervent prayer. This teaching challenges us to examine our prayer lives and to recognize that the 'prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.' Are we truly tapping into this power? Are we bringing our needs, our joys, and even our sins before God and trusted fellow believers? This message invites us to deepen our prayer life and experience the transformative power of connecting with our Creator.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
James 4:13-17 | Week 14

James 4:13-17 | July 13, 2025 | Pastor Jim Stitzinger

In this powerful exploration of James 4:13-17, we're confronted with the sin of presumption and challenged to align our plans with God's will. The passage reminds us that life is fleeting - a mere mist that appears for a moment and then vanishes. How often do we make plans without considering God's sovereignty? We're called to humble ourselves, recognizing that we don't control tomorrow or even our next breath. Instead of boasting about our intentions, we should say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.' This shift in perspective isn't just about words; it's about a heart posture of surrender and trust in God's perfect plan. As we reflect on this, let's consider: Are we truly submitting our ambitions to God, or are we playing God in our own lives? This message urges us to seek God's will earnestly and act on what we know is right, for to know the good we ought to do and not do it is sin. Let's embrace the beautiful tension of making plans while holding them loosely, always ready to yield to God's greater wisdom and love.

James 5:1-6 | Week 15

James 5:1-6 | July 20, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In James 5:1-6, we're challenged to examine our relationship with wealth and possessions. The passage warns against hoarding riches and reminds us that true treasure is found in heaven, not on earth. We're called to reflect on how we use our resources - are we storing up earthly wealth that corrodes, or investing in eternal values? This message urges us to be generous givers rather than selfish hoarders, echoing Jesus' teaching that it's more blessed to give than to receive. As we consider our own financial practices, we're prompted to ask: Are we using our blessings wisely for God's kingdom, or are we clinging to them for our own comfort? This introspection can lead us to a more Christ-like approach to wealth, one that values generosity and compassion over self-indulgence.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
James 4:11-12 | Week 13

James 4:11-12 | July 6, 2025 | Pastor Darryl Delhousaye

In this powerful message, we're challenged to examine our hearts and actions when it comes to judging others. The central theme revolves around Jesus' teaching in Matthew 7: 'Judge not, lest you be judged.' We're reminded that our primary calling is to love God and love our neighbors, and that how we treat others is a direct reflection of our love for God. The message emphasizes the danger of deception, both from external forces and our own hearts, and how easily we can fall into the trap of speaking against our brothers and sisters in Christ. We're encouraged to approach correction with humility, always asking permission and speaking the truth in love. This teaching invites us to consider: How can we be peacemakers in our relationships? Are we quick to judge, or do we seek to restore and edify others? By embracing this wisdom, we can become powerful witnesses of God's love in a world desperate for unity amidst diversity.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
James 4:7-10 | Week 12

James 4:7-10 | June 29, 2025 | Pastor Darryl Delhousaye

In this powerful exploration of humility and love, we're challenged to reconsider our understanding of what it means to truly love God. The central message revolves around Jesus' commandment in John 13:34-35 to 'love one another.' Fascinatingly, we learn that this love for others is actually how we demonstrate our love for God. The speaker draws our attention to James 2:8 and Galatians 5:14, emphasizing that fulfilling the 'royal law' is about loving our neighbors as ourselves. This perspective shift invites us to examine our own hearts and actions. Are we more concerned with how we're treated, or how we treat others? The message encourages us to adopt Christ's humility, seeing others as more important than ourselves. By doing so, we not only honor God but also resist the influence of negative spiritual forces in our lives. This teaching challenges us to live out our faith in practical, others-focused ways, reminding us that our treatment of people directly reflects our relationship with God.

Life at Crossroads: Weekly Sermons
James 4:1-6 | Week 11

James 3:13-18 | June 8, 2025 | Pastor Todd Smith

In our exploration of James 4:1-6, we uncover profound insights into the root causes of conflict and the path to spiritual harmony. James challenges us to examine our hearts, revealing how our unchecked desires and worldly attachments can lead to strife. The passage reminds us that our conflicts often stem from internal battles – our 'passions at war within us.' This introspective approach invites us to consider how our own selfishness and misplaced priorities contribute to discord in our relationships and communities. As we reflect on James' words, we're called to a deeper understanding of humility and its transformative power. The promise that 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble' offers us a compelling reason to cultivate humility in our daily lives. This message resonates deeply, urging us to shift our focus from worldly pursuits to a God-centered perspective, potentially revolutionizing our approach to conflicts and relationships.
