The Latest in LGBTIQ+ Health and Policy is a podcast that brings you the health and wellbeing hot topic discussions that matter to LGBTIQ+ people.
The National Suicide Prevention Office is a new branch within the National Mental Health Commission – with a dedicated team responsible for working with those with lived and living experience of suicidality to develop a National Suicide Prevention Strategy, setting priorities for suicide prevention research and knowledge sharing around Australia, and leading the development of a national outcomes framework for suicide prevention.
On this episode of The Latest, Triana is joined by the head of the National Suicide Prevention Office, Dr Michael Gardner.  Dr Gardner has extensive experience in government, academic and in-community service provisions in mental health and suicide prevention, and his work is also heavily informed by his own lived experience of suicidality.
Dr Gardner speaks about his work, this new division, as well as the National Suicide Prevention Strategy – and how it’s focussing on suicide and suicidality within the LGBTQIA+ community.
