Letter to Chiefs from Senior Chief Theresa Kachindamoto

This special episode of Letters, hosted by Gloria Dzanjalimodzi and co-host Uchizi Manda, honours the life and legacy of Senior Chief Theresa Kachindamoto, a visionary leader who fought tirelessly to end child marriage in Malawi. Known for her courage and relentless spirit, she freed thousands of girls from harmful practices, challenged cultural norms, and always put the wellbeing of children first. In this episode, we also hear from two girls that were freed from child marriages.

Though we recorded her letter in 2020, we release it now in 2025 in the wake of her passing. Her words are a reminder that her legacy lives on; in every girl who can envision a better life because of her, and in all of us who are called to continue her work. We share this episode with love and gratitude, in honour of a leader whose seeds of change will keep growing for generations to come.

Trigger Warning: This episode contains references to sexual assault and other sensitive topics. Please listen with care.
