Hi, I’m Clara Louis — a somatic practitioner and someone who knows what it’s like to live in a sensitive body, to feel disconnected from yourself, and to wonder if you’ll ever get back. For years, I lived in survival mode. My body was tense, my mind was always “on,” and I thought the answer was to push harder, think more, and try to fix myself. But what I learned changed everything: mindset can’t land in a body that doesn’t feel safe. That’s why I created Letters to the Part of Me: A Podcast on Somatic Healing, Presence, and the Nervous System. Each week, I’ll share grounded, practical teachings to help you understand your nervous system, recognise survival patterns, and learn how to return to safety — slowly, gently, and with compassion. You’ll hear real-life examples, simple tools you can try today, and stories that remind you: you’re not alone in this. So if you’ve ever thought, “Why can’t I feel anything anymore?” or “Why do I keep shutting down?” — you’re exactly where you need to be. Subscribe now to Letters to the Part of Me on your favourite podcast app — and let’s take this journey back to yourself, one honest moment at a time.

1. Understanding your stress cycle: Why your body holds onto tension

Welcome to Season 2 of Letters to the Part of Me: A Podcast on Somatic Healing, Presence, and the Nervous System.

This season, we’re doing things a little differently: blending my personal reflections with clear, compassionate education on the nervous system, so you can better understand your body and what it needs to feel safe.

In this first episode, I share the single piece of knowledge that completely shifted how I see myself and my stress: how the stress cycle works, and why so many of us get stuck in it.

You’ll learn:
✨What your nervous system actually is, explained simply
✨Why our stress response is ancient (and how it’s still reacting to “modern lions”)
✨The real reason tension, fog, and exhaustion linger after the problem is “over”
✨Simple, practical ways to help your body complete the stress cycle
✨Why understanding this process can lead to more self-compassion, not self-blame

I also share a personal story from my years working in tech support — and how sitting still during constant “emergencies” left my body buzzing, even after I went home.

If you’ve ever wondered why you can’t just “think your way calm” or why rest doesn’t always work, this episode will give you the missing piece.
