Let's Talk About Sets!

The "science" and craft of stand-up comedy. A playful podcast by comics in NYC.

Hosted by comedians Jeff McBride and Harrison Tweed, the show geeks out over the enigma of stand-up comedy. Laugh and learn with us as we curate some of the best jokes of all time, dissect them, stare at the entrails, and divine their inner workings--all while exploring a "theme" about stand-up as a craft. It's as niche as a documentary about Renaissance oil painting brush bristles...but FUNNY!

If you nerd hard about comedy, or if you actually do stand-up, or ESPECIALLY if part of you has always thought you'd be great at it (but you never tried, you weenie!), then this is your next favorite podcast.

Episode 052 PRESENCE - Bret Raybould: "Don't give a fuck if this goes well"

PRESENCE
The way-too-likable, philosophically funny comic, Bret Raybould, explores the role of PRESENCE in stand-up from a makeshift recording studio inside Bret's private plane. We break this topic down into "being present" and "stage presence", touching on the stages of learning, flow state, body language, not giving a fuck, and knowing your act. Bret tells us how dealt successfully with following SNL's Leslie Jones after she brought down the house. We dig into these aspects of presence and a lot more via bits by Brody Stevens, Patrice O'Neal, and Dane Cook. All this while we eat gold-encrusted caviar off the backs of Bret's devoted team of silent manservants.
ABOUT THE GUEST COMIC
Bret Raybould is a comedian, actor, and writer. Born and raised in Kansas, he is now a staple (not a delicacy) of the New York stand up and sketch comedy scenes. During the week, he performs all over the city and, on weekends, he co-headlines shows all along the east coast as part of the NYC Comedy Invades tour.

He makes up ½ of the Raybould Brothers sketch comedy group–along with his brother and fellow comedian Jordan. Their work has been featured in the Huffington Post, the AV Club, Funny or Die, and CollegeHumor. He is a co-host of the Oh, Dear podcast, a podcast that breaks down topics that are just on the line of offensive.

In 2018, he placed second among 130 comedians in Mohegan Sun’s Last Comix Standing competition. His festival credits include: Bridgetown, SF Sketchfest (received “Best of Fest” accolades), New York Comedy Festival, Skankfest, and Asheville.
Lastly, he has written for the show Apocalypse NowThis, which received a Webby nomination.
