Sometimes the hardest conversations are the ones we avoid—yet they’re often the ones we need to talk about the most. I’m your host, Di McMath—a seasoned nurse, former paramedic, resilience coach, and entrepreneur with more than three decades of standing alongside people in their most vulnerable moments. I’m no stranger to life’s battles either, and those experiences have shaped not only how I listen, but ultimately - how I connect. Now, I’m taking those skills from the frontline into the studio—sparking raw, thought-provoking conversations with everyday people about the topics many shy away from. In this 12-part series of Let’s Talk About It, we dive headfirst into the questions we often wonder about but rarely ask. From life and death to everything in between (and even beyond), you’ll hear unfiltered stories and perspectives that challenge assumptions, break stigma, and shine a light on our shared humanity. This isn’t about glorifying taboo topics—it’s about getting curious, being courageous and authentic, and above all, embracing human connection. So if you’re ready for real talk, deep insights, and conversations that may just make the heaviest topics feel a little lighter—you’re in the right place.

From a routine test to a decision of Euthanasia

Today I chat with my hairdresser 'Seona', who is the granddaughter of Nancy Crick - the first person in Australia to go through with 'assisted dying' at a time when it was not yet legalised in Australia.

Seona tells the story of how Nancy's routine colonoscopy ended up in her making the decision to choose to 'die with dignity', and how the possible legal ramifications were avoided.

The discussion also touches on the impact of the senseless murder of her brother, injustice, the family impact, as well as the spiritual connections that can arise from loss.

Ultimately, it emphasizes the importance of understanding and compassion in navigating these difficult topics.

Disclaimer Some topics in this discussion may be triggering for some, therefore viewers discretion is recommended. In Australia, Lifeline is available 24/7 on 131114.

This discussion is not recommended for viewers/listeners under 18yr of age.

Keywords euthanasia, assisted dying, grief, family support, life choices, death, dignity, personal stories, mental health, resilience
