Every year, the world seems to go faster. Noise floods our earbuds, and perfectly pictured people flood our timelines. In a culture of influence, you can find a ‘solution’ for this on every corner. Still, these ‘solutions’ also fail us. 'Let There Be Light' hopes to answer questions like: “how do I find purpose?” or “can there really be peace in the brokenness?” Hosted by journalist Mary Caltrider, this podcast goes beyond her usual 3 minute stories. By talking with vowed religious and inspirations, this show will reveal how even in the brokenness, you can still find the beauty.

Ep. 24: A Priest’s miraculous journey from coma to calling

Today’s guest is the one and only karaoke priest aka Father Joe Detwiler! Father Joe is the associate pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Wentzville in the St. Louis archdiocese. His path to the priesthood was far from ordinary. Fr. Joe planned to enter the college seminary right after high school, but all of that changed when he and his sister, Cecilia, were in a car accident on July 4, 2010. Both had critical injuries, and it was doubtful they would survive. So, we chat about his road to recovery which included over 70 days in a coma. Fr. Joe also shares how he now sees God’s goodness at work in this terrible accident. Plus, how he takes this suffering into his role as priest. Enjoy!
