قاعِد لا بيَّا ولا عَلَيَّا

فِي يُوم مِن الأَيَّام، وِأَنا قَاعِد في قَهْوَة، دَخَلَت سِتّ وِقَعَدِت عَلَى تَرَابِيزَة قُرَيِّبَة مِن بِتَاعْتِي. هِيّ اخْتَارِت التَّرَابِيزَة الكِبِيرَة اللِّي جَنْب الشِّبَّاك وِفِي وِشّ مَدْخَل المَحَلّ. التَّرَابِيزَة دِي بِتَاخُد خَمْس أَفْرَاد.

أَوِّل حَاجَة عَمَلِتْهَا بَعْد مَا قَعَدِت، نَزَّلِت سِتَارَة الشِّبَّاك، وِبَعْد كِدَه قَامِت مِن مَكَانْهَا وِرِجْعِت بِـ"ريموت" التَّكْيِيف فِي إِيدْهَا وِشَغَّلِت التَّكْيِيف عَلَى حَوَالِي ١٧.

فَجْأَة، المَكَان بَقَى مِضَلَّم وِسَاقِع. أَنَا اتْعَفْرَتّ، وِاتْوَقَّعْت إن الزَّبَايِن التَّانْيِين بَرْضُه اتْضَايْقُوا مِن السِّتّ اللِّي قَلَبِت المَكَان مِن الأَرْض لِلمَرِّيخ فِي مَافِيش.

وَأَنَا بَرَاقِب رَدّ فِعْل الزَّبَايِن التَّانْيِين فِي القَهْوَة، لَاقِيتْهُم مَاخَدُوش بَالْهُم مِن اللِّي حَصَل وَلَا فَارِق مَعَاهُم. أَنَا اسْتَسْلِمْت وِطَلَبْت الحِسَاب وِمِشِيت.

أَنَا مُنْبَهِر قَدّ إِيه المَصْرِيِّين بِيِسْتَحْمِلُوا بَعْض.

لا بيَّا ولا عَلَيَّا – lā bēyya wa lā ‘alayya – minding my own business

قَهْوَة – ‘ahwa – café / coffee shop

دَخَلِت – dakhalt – she entered

سِتّ – sitt – woman / lady

تَرَابِيزَة – tarabēza – table

قُرَيِّبَة – ‘urayyiba – nearby / close

بِتَاعْتِي – bitā‘ti – mine (feminine)

الشِّبَاك – ish-shibbāk – the window

مَدْخَل – madkhal – entrance

مَحَلّ – maḥall – shop / place

خَمْس أَفْرَاد – khams afrād – five people

سِتَارَة – sitāra – curtain

رِجْعِت – rig‘it – she returned

ريموت – rīmūt – remote

التَّكْيِيف – it-takyīf – air conditioning

سَاقِع – sā’i‘ – cold

اتْعَفْرَت – it‘afrit – I got irritated

اتْوَقَّعْت-ق – itwaqqa‘t – I expected

الزَبَايِن – iz-zabāyin – the customers

التَانْيِين – it-tānyīn – the others

اتْضَايْقُوا – iḍḍāyu’ū – they got annoyed

قَلَبِت – ‘alabit – she flipped / changedالمَرِّيخ Marc

في مَافِيش – māfīsh – in no time / instantly

بَرَاقِب – barā’īb – I observe

رَدّ فِعْل – radd fi‘l – reaction

لَاقِيتْهُم – lā’eet-hum – I found them

مَاخَدُوش بَالْهُم – mākhadūsh bālhum – they didn’t notice

فَارِق مَعَاهُم – fāri’ ma‘āhum – it didn’t matter to them

اسْتَسْلِمْت – istaslimt – I gave up

طَلَبْت الحِسَاب – ṭalabt il-ḥisāb – I asked for the bill

مِشِيت I walked away– mishēt – I left

مُنْبَهِر – munbahir – amazed

بِيِسْتَحْمِلُوا – biyistaḥmilū – they tolerate

بَعْض – ba‘ḍ – each other
