No one enjoys pain, no one likes emotional damage but the truth and irony is, pain is what makes us what we are. It makes us human, it makes us sane. The poet in this poem is asking questions in how ironic is the world we live in, how getting old only teaches us to hide our pain, get over it and just wave a smile to the world. Sometimes pretending hurts less and makes life bearable.
