Episode 18-11: Valuing Talent in Sport
Sport is a commodities market and the #1 commodity in sport is Talent!
Its like the Wild West, Guns for Hire and its BIG BUSINESS.
You’ve probably hears all about it: The Largest Deal In Professional Sport History.
Juan Soto, $765 Million over 15 years. With signing bonus and incentives, he will earn close to $840,000,000 by the time its all done.
Soto is obviously a HOT commodity but how do you value Talent?
It’s a numbers game. A players performance numbers compared to all other players, it’s a market value system.
Its Cut and Dry, Black and White and it is Absolutely Unforgiving.
Either you have the numbers, or you do not.
However, what do you do as a young player with a dream of playing in the big leagues?
Or as a parent of an athlete who has that dream?
Or as a coach of a driven passionate kid who loves sport.
My best advice, for what its worth, is to get an understanding of the long game that is athlete development and read up on Talent.
This can really help you guide your athlete through the process and at the same time give you some great knowledge that you can use to make informed decisions.
That is exactly what we are going to do on this week’s episode of Krush Performance as we sum up all of our work looking into Talent and Talent ID.
Soto’s contract with bonuses and clauses can add up to more than $840 million over the15 years – he’ll be 41.
Its Great Work if you can get it and there is nothing like the thrill of the chase when you are creating coachable players.
