Today I am going to talk about winter fruits in Korea 한국이 있는 북반구는 겨울이 왔는데요, Korea, since it is in the Northern hemisphere, it is Winter these days. 한국은 사계절 간 차이가 큰 나라이기 때문에 계절별로 주로 생산되는 과일도 다른데요 겨울에 많이 나오는 과일이 있어서 소개하고자 합니다. 그 과일들은 바로 귤, Mandarin 그리고 딸기 Strawberry입니다. 먼저 귤은 원래는 생산량이 많지 않아서 왕족들만 먹을 수 있는 과일이었다고 해요. 그런데, 1980년대 이후 우리나라 제주도를 중심으로 귤 농업 기술이 발전하면서 생산량이 급속도로 늘어났고, 그 이후에 겨울을 대표하는 과일이 되었습니다. 딸기도 겨울에 많이 생산되는 과일입니다. 원래 자연 상태에서 딸기의 제철은 여름이라고 해요. In natural state, scientists say that strawberry is a summer fruit. 그러나 딸기가 대부분 시설 재배로 이루어진 이후에는, 농부들이 경쟁 과일이 적은 겨울 시장을 집중 공략하면서 딸기가 겨울에 많이 나오게 되었다고 하네요. 특히 겨울에는 우리나라 날씨 특성상 일조량이 많아서 당도가 최대로 올라가며 병충해가 없어 딸기 키우기가 매우 수월하다고 합니다. 귤과 딸기가 한국의 대표적인 겨울 과일입니다. 여러분들이 한국에 오신다면 귤과 딸기를 이용한 여러 가지 음식과 디저트를 맛볼 수 있을 거예요. Korea experiences distinct seasons, resulting in different fruits being predominantly produced in each season. I want to introduce some fruits that are abundant in winter: mandarins and strawberries. Firstly, mandarins were originally a fruit only available to the royals due to their limited production. However, since the 1980s, particularly with advancements in tangerine agricultural technology centered around Jeju Island, production has rapidly increased. Consequently, mandarins have become a representative fruit of winter. Strawberries are also heavily produced during winter. Originally, strawberries were considered a fruit in season during the summer in their natural state. However, with most strawberries being cultivated in facilities, farmers have targeted the less competitive winter market, leading to an abundance of strawberries in the winter season. Especially during winter, due to Korea's weather conditions, ample sunlight and minimal pests make it relatively easy to cultivate strawberries, resulting in their sweetness peaking during this time.
