Many are aware of the accomplishments of William Wilberforce and his successful initiatives to abolish slavery and introduce institutional reforms in the United Kingdom. What is not known, however, is that his work is indebted to his closest friends, the ‘Clapham Sect,’ a group of men and women dedicated to being instruments of social and moral welfare.
