“Poetry for me is like living in a cave; cutting my nerves, breath and shadow. I would want to come out of it at times and then go back again. It’s a perpetual cycle of scratching myself” — Komal Bukhari
Komal Bukhari, one of Pakistan's most beloved and cherished feminist writers of the modern era, is a poet and a social activist with a background in social sciences and liberal arts. Her poetry explores themes of injustice, existential crises, self, and theology, with the aim of reimagining society and presenting a free world that gives voice to unsaid thoughts and feelings.
A sensation of belonging; for many of us, her writing seems like "home" She recently had her book published in an anthology called "A Mosaic of Musings" and her poem was featured on BBC Urdu. Komal joins us to discuss the process of creating the poems, her thoughts on writing, the publication of her first book, and what gives her poetry more depth, childhood, love or pain and appreciating those who have inspired her.
