They highlight that the government has been actively providing and renovating properties across the country to serve as safe shelters for GBV survivors. These shelters offer protection, counseling, healing, and empowerment to help victims rebuild their lives and break the cycle of violence. The Department of Social Development, in collaboration with the National Shelter Movement, aims to ensure that nearly every district in South Africa has access to a fully functional GBV shelter, providing critical care and support to vulnerable communities.
