Freedom of Expression | From a Legal Eagle's perspective : Episode #3

Had an opportunity to talk to Maria Khan from Pakistan. She has an illustrious academic & professional career. She is an alumnus of Lahore University of Management Sciences & also is a Michigan Grotius Fellow. Currently she works as a Data Privacy Legal Analyst at securiti.ai

In this episode we talk about how privacy is not absolute right and it needs to be balanced with fundamental rights. She believes that Truth and Privacy are interlinked. Freedom of expression and spread of misinformation have a delicate balance.

As an advocate she believes that criticism needs to be allowed as it helps society evolve.

In the light of the recent Twitter - Indian Government Spat, we discussed as to who needs to be the protector of Freedom - should it be the government or private companies?

She believes that in this age of technology, the identified public shaming & the visceral reaction of corporations to avoid Fines as the two drivers to change behavior of companies.

She recommends securitit.ai, iapp.org  & dataguidance.com

She has high regard for Rehan Jalil for building an organization like Securiti.ai

Currently she is reading Indecision by Benjamin Kunkel
