26 episodes

We explore Jazz theory, learning strategies and improvisation for all Instruments (including jazz piano). This podcast will especially be useful for musicians transitioning to a new instrument or coming from a different style (such as classical music), who are coming back to piano from a longer break, or who are strong players but want to review some of their jazz foundations (including jazz theory and jazz ear training). A strong emphasis is placed on music visualization on your instrument, aural skills development and the four types of memories in music.

Diatonic Chords - Contrasting Maj7, min7 and Dominant7 (Jazz Theory - All Instruments)

What would happen if you played the I7, ii7 and V7 chords side-by-side, from a same base note? They sure look similar - but would they sound similar, too? How does one transpose chord qualities?

Erratum: I have updated the video to correct a small mistake around the 2:38 min mark → F major key signature.
