Jade Talks Travel is the go-to podcast about travelling independently, to off the beaten track destinations. As a travel expert (worked many jobs in the travel industry and travelled to almost 60 countries) I share stories from the road and practical tips on how to make travel accessible to all. I also interview other experts in their field.
On my website, you can book virtually any aspect of your trip.
My life has inadvertently been filled with travel. At 11 years old, my mum took me backpacking for a year through Asia and Europe. This ignited in me the idea that travel was life. I’ve since explored 55+ countries (so far) and managed travel agents, been a tour guide, worked on a cruise ship, worked in car rentals, taught travel and tourism, taught English in Japan, assisted iconic tourism businesses in New Zealand to sell more online and am now a freelance writer, podcaster and photographer.

So the aim of my travel podcast is to make travel more accessible by sharing years of knowledge from within the travel industry and as a traveller, lessons from the road, and I also interview travel industry experts with the ultimate aim of inspiring everyone who listens to get out there to travel and see the world. For those interested in working in the travel industry I also dedicate episodes on how to get into specific travel related jobs.

Travel isn’t just about ticking boxes and getting likes on Instagram. It’s learning about the world, seeing how other cultures do stuff and passing that knowledge on back home. It reduces material desires, removes prejudices, and increases tolerance. Most importantly, travel changes people and it's fun!

The easiest way to change the world, is for everyone to experience everything the world has to offer. But the more people travel, the more they see what the world is really like.

On that note, I’ve just released my twentieth episode and I still have plenty more exciting episodes to come including (but not limited to):

>Where’s the best place to spend Christmas (besides home)
>Packing up the family and moving to Fiji (I speak to a friend who did it)
>Working on a cruise ship
> Eco and sustainable tourism
> Festivals of Japan
> Long term travel - turning a dream into reality
> volunteer travel (in Africa)
> Working holiday visas

Of course there’s plenty of entertaining stories, many of which proved to be important lessons in life. If you travel, send me a postcard (head to my website) and I’ll read it out on air. Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss out on future episodes.

Tourists vs Locals

Are tourists killing tourism? I've been wondering this after reading a few articles about places that had closed down to tourists, because there were too many, and pollution was destroying the natural environment. I also watched a documentary on Al Jazeera highlighting the tension between tourists and locals, which is why I wanted to bring about the discussion, are tourists, destroying the very thing they seek to see? Here's a list of tourist-free destinations >> https://jadejackson.com.au/tourist-free-travel-ideas/ Share your views - head to my website, https://jadejackson.com.au or find me on facebook, reddit and twitter @jadekinsjackson. Thanks for listening! Sorry for the delay between episodes, I'm getting back on track with everything! Happy travels and don't forget to send me a postcard! Cheers, Jade :-)

Travel Agents

My podcast Travelosophy has undergone a revamp and is now called:Jade Talks Travel. Along with a new logo, you'll find even greater and more useful travel content, but most importantly you'll now be able to book the cheapest flights (including multi-sector itineraries) directly via my website → https://jadejackson.com.au. You'll also find incredible deals like round the world flights for under $1000 or Italy, France and Spain from $948!In the first episode of Jade Talks Travel, I highlight the dodgy side of travel including some of the travel agents I previously dealt with (who are probably in jail now) and how to avoid being ripped off by unscrupulous online travel agents. I go into detail about flight search engine comparison sites like Sky Scanner, Hopper and Kayak and how they fit in with retail travel agencies like Flight Centre and STA Travel. Most importantly I talk about how to ensure you get a great deal on your next flight, without falling victim to any sneaky traps that travel agencies and even some airlines will try on you. Links mentioned in the show include: Online Travel Agent Scams and Dodgy Tactics, check out the Book Your Travel page or download my travel booking app (for iOS) to quickly search and compare hundreds of airlines, hotels and book multi-sector itineraries, quickly and easily. The OTA comparison chart is a work in progress and will appear under the Book Your Travel tab on my website once it’s fully live. If you have comments or suggestions, please tweet me @jadekinsjackson, find me on Facebook @jadekinsjackson or send me an email via my website https://jadejackson.com.au. If you love the content I provide, then please tell your friends to subscribe, or leave a review on Apple Podcasts or your favourite podcasting app. Thanks for listening and don't forget to send me a postcard from your next trip. Learn how to be a travel photographer by first improving your travel photos. As a photographer who specialises in travel, I often hear “I wish I was a better photographer” so I’ve created an entire podcast episode of pretty much everything I’ve learned in 30 plus years of travel photography. From the basics of operating an SLR camera, to planning your photos, to editing. Everything you need to go out and create incredible images. I also include a section on phone photography, though the idea for this podcast is regardless of what camera you have, you can still create stunning images. All the photos I mentioned in the podcast, can be viewed on a blog post here or on the following link >> https://jadejackson.com.au/improve-your-travel-photos/Need to find the cheapest flights? A Tribute to Jennifer K Olsen
With travel and living overseas, inevitably comes long distance romance. The story of Jen and I is one such love that was never fully realised. In a world of borders, expensive visas, and restrictions on working, long distance relationships are difficult in the digital nomad world. Tragically Jennifer Olsen died on the 21st January 2019 at just 42 years old. This special tribute edition of Jade Talks Travel is dedicated to Jen, on what would have been her 43rd Birthday. To share a memory or learn more about the beautiful soul that was Jennifer, please visit her memorial website www.jenniferkolsen.wordpress.com

Alaska, USA

Alaska, home to wild orcas, seemingly endless wilderness, and probably the only place where a solo male traveller would get picked up hitchhiking, by a 16 year old girl, playing Christian death-metal music. In this episode of Jade Talks Travel hear why hitchhiking might be your only option in some places in Alaska to travel around, and why sometimes in remote and inaccessible destinations, it’s probably a good idea to have a plan, which is not my usual style of travel. Islands
Like poetry, a well written travel article, should be read aloud, allowing you to feel the salty ocean breeze as it whispers seductively in your ear. In this episode you can hear me reading two of my favourite travel articles; The Lure of Islands which divulges why islands are the ultimate escape, and how to live on one, and I also read an article about Cape Palliser—a rugged and wild stretch of land, at the bottom of the North Island in New Zealand. Both of these articles were written by me and whilst they are inspirational, they’re also beautiful to listen to. It sounds weird, it’s not like all the other episodes, but I think it works.
Want to find the cheapest flights and hotels? Head to my website >>https://jadejackson.com.au/book-flights-hotel
If you wish to read the original articles, which include photos, here’s The Lure of Islands, and here’s Cape Palliser.

Christmas

Next Christmas, travel to the North Pole to Visit Santa Claus! In this episode you’ll hear about my first white Christmas in Rovaniemi, Finland, visiting Santa (above the Arctic Circle which is the same as the North Pole to a child). Along with a Christmas on a cruise ship, and a magical Christmas in New York, which is exactly as you’ve seen in every Christmas movie. A destination Christmas is far more relaxing plus you can give experience gifts like jet boating in New Zealand, a broadway musical in New York, or a snorkeling tour if you’re on a cruise. Thus ensuring your Christmas has lasting memories. With limited luggage on flights, it also means your Christmas will become less about the gifts, and more about spending time together. Make it part of your new Christmas traditions.

Find the cheapest flights to tricky destinations, along with hotels - all on my website >> https://jadejackson.com.au/book-flights-hotel/

Further to this podcast episode, I’ve written an article featuring, Alternative Christmas Traditions to add to your family repertoire; some of which cost nothing.

If you’re stuck for Christmas gift ideas and only have a budget of $5, then here’s your shopping list; Christmas gifts for under $5.

You can find info visiting Santa in Rovaniemi (Finland) here. If you’re interested in, A New York Christmas, then read my Christmas in New York article. Jade Talks Travel
Philippines

If you’re wanting a tropical holiday with incredible snorkeling (turtles and whale sharks), perfect white-sand beaches, cheap relaxing massages, and mouth-watering delicious food but without the hoards of tourists of Thailand or Bali; then head to the Philippines. In my latest episode of Jade Talks Travel, hear how despite exhaustion I ended up with one of my favorite photos, how things we do at home can offer a different experience in another country and the curious creature—the tarsier, that commits suicide in captivity!
Find the cheapest flights to anywhere including multi-city itineraries on my website >> https://jadejackson.com.au/book-flights-hotel/

Jade Talks Travel
Travel Addiction

It’s time we discussed a side of travel that you won’t see on Instagram, or in travel brochures, and that’s the addiction of travel. Knowing the cons of long term travel and how it affects your relationships both abroad, and at home, is crucial but few talk or acknowledge it; just as how coming home is not all it’s cracked up to be. Thankfully, and most importantly, small changes can make a big difference when suffering post trip depression.
Having spent the better part of 20 years travelling and living overseas, I can finally admit, that travel is an addiction. Hear some tips for appeasing the desire to travel to save your bank account, your relationships and your sanity.

Jade Talks Travel

Thanks for listening to Jade Talks Travel with Jade Jackson.
