This is Part Two of a three-part episode, where Amanda and Monica talk to Melissa about her tragic childhood which led her to fall in love with abusive men.
Melissa's first sexual experience was with a pedophile at age14 and that formed the basis for all of her future relationships.
She learned at an early age that she could exchange sex for an emotional connection.
She talks about several abusive relationships where she was both physically, emotionally, and sexually abused.
Melissa talks about a partner who, when she left him, would stalk her. She found that he would enter her home and hide under her bed. She was afraid he would eventually kill her and she reported this to the police. This seemed to scare him enough to keep him away.
Next, she was engaged to a man who she caught cheating three weeks before their wedding. Melissa uncovered her fiance had a sex addiction and was spending all his money on strippers and prostitutes.
Because of Melissa's past, she believes she needs to keep her partner happy, so he doesn't leave her. Even though she married a wonderful man, the pervasive thought of "I'm not good enough" never leaves her.
