He had been spending some time with her when she asked him if he had ever thought about her. He told her the truth, which was that he never knew she existed. His daughter is now furious with her mother and family for not tell her the truth. The father wonders if he is the asshole for tarnishing the image of her mother.
Amanda and Monica think the mom is the asshole, and he was right to tell her the truth.
