A Podcast about growing with a twin brother up In the 70s and 80s, at the dawn of video games, navigating family strife, punk rock, Star Wars obsessions, and trying to understand the world while developing an inexplicable love for everything “Atari”. -- In this podcast we discuss Atari computers and systems, new and old, review new games we collect, talk about all the systems, and the significance they had in our lives and the lives of others, and even talk about them in an historical context with the backdrop the times they were released, and how they are being used now. We do all this in an effort to finally understand the answer to this existential question: what does it mean to have grown up in the generation of "the Vertical blank." Credits: Written, Engineered and Produced by Jeff Fulton @8bitrocket With help from Steve Fulton @fultonbot Branding by Daryl Litts @daryllitts

#140: The Game Creator: Atari ST STOS History, Games &  Community
If you were a teen,  pre-teen, or even a curious adult with an 8-bit computer in the 80’s, you most likely started your journey as a computer enthusiast by playing with the basic language included with your machine.  Some typed in a few programs, then moved to games and never looked back, while many of us were so engrossed in the power to control the computer and especially create games,  that it became an obsession that we still feed off of today.     Eventually many of us sold or traded up to an Amiga or Atari ST and we found that basic languages bundled with the machines, at least before the advent of the Super, or Power pack bundles, was lacking in any game making ability. In fact, some of the basics were so poor that many of us were put off trying to program on these newer faster machines at all.    Enter the game creation basics! If you were an ST owner in 1989 or an Amiga owner just one year later, your prayers were answered by a fantastic set of tools by a tint French development team of two genius developers.    Video Version: https://youtu.be/kK4QrccSChg Full notes available here: https://intotheverticalblank.com/2025/06/02/140-the-game-creator-atari-st-stos-history-games-community/
