Inside the Jewel Vault with Wim Vertriest

What gems would fill a field gemmologist's vault?

Lace up your hiking boots and get ready to find out in this episode as I ask GIA Field Gemologist, Wim Vertriest, to select six pieces from his travels and career in gemmology and put them into a fantasy Jewel Vault, ultimately choosing that one special treasure to keep safe forever.

Welcome Inside the Jewel Vault hosted by me, jeweller and gemmologist Jessica Cadzow-Collins, with guests drawn from the great and the good across the jewellery world, who chose six special pieces from their life and career in jewellery to save in a fantasy jewel vault, before ultimately picking just one to treasure forever.

I hope you enjoy listening!

Guest Bio: Wim Vertriest is manager of Field Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Curator of the Institute's Colored Stone Research Collection. Originally from Belgium where he graduated as a geologist, Wim is now based in the global capital of gemstones, Bangkok, where he is the Wim is Manager of Field Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Curator of the Institute's Colored Stone Research Collection.

He has first-hand knowledge of gem mining and has travelled, lectured and written extensively on coloured gems. He says he can find his way around the world’s gemstone mining areas just as easily as navigating the microscopic internal world of gemstones.

I want to hear from you!

What special treasures would you put into your fantasy jewel vault, and why? Every so often I’ll compile your stories into a podcast of their own.
