I will have many conversations with those on the same journey, from teachers, from those teaching their kids, and really anyone who wants to have a conversation about language! And tackling Insecurities. This podcast is for people who are learning a new language, who want to learn a language, and people who grew up speaking a language but forgot it. INSECURITIES ABOUT THE RÉUNION ISLAND CREOLE LANGUAGE

Hey Language Learners! Welcome back to another amazing interview about Insecurities about Language. In this episode, I spoke with Nelsy (Yseuln), currently living in Amsterdam. She was born and raised in Reunion Island, which is located between Madagascar and Mauritius.  French and Reunionese creole are her native languages, and she has a strong interest in language learning. She gave a thorough background about when she began learning languages and her journey. Nelsy talks about the official and unofficial language of Reunion Island, French and Reunionese Creole. She mentions joining Twitter was a big turning point in her language journey with English. Nelsy has learned many languages and has a tendency to take on languages with a different writing system, like the Korean language.

We get a history lesson for Nelsy about Reunion Island and the language and discusses about some of her own fears or questions with her local language, such as the lack of written literature and therefore most people including herself cannot write the official/conventional way as historically due to slavery it was a spoken language, also the "value" of the language with French, as creole languages are also seen as not a real language.

Nelsy has provided some music, poetry and literature of her island. Be sure to check it out and her on instagram, below are the links.
