Our Goal with Indie Film Podcast is to share all of the mistakes we’ve made in our film making journey, so you can avoid them! We are owners of over 75 rejection letters from film festivals. In spite of producing several well-received films, neither of us has managed to turn our passion into a career. Our continued efforts to follow the advice doled out by the gurus has given us a plethora of experience in nearly every filmmaking role, but also, a negative balance in our bank accounts. Follow us on our journey as we attempt to break into the national film scene, or just incur more debt.

The 10 Most Inherently Compelling Scenes (According to Horror Movies)

Screenwriting tips meet horror writing lessons in this episode of the Indie Film Podcast! Chuck and Victoria explore the 10 most inherently compelling scenes used by horror films, from being chased to being trapped, and show how you can use them in any genre.

Whether you’re an indie filmmaker, aspiring screenwriter, or author searching for inspiration, horror films are a masterclass in tension and storytelling. We break down examples from iconic horror movies, explain why they work, and share how you can adapt these setups into your own scripts and indie projects.

In this episode:

  • Why horror is the best “training ground” for great screenwriting

  • How 10 classic horror setups can inspire scripts in any genre

  • Examples from iconic horror films, and what makes them work

  • Practical tips for indie filmmakers and writers to apply these lessons

  • Our personal fails trying these situations, and what they taught us

Horror movies might make us scream, but they also teach us how to keep audiences hooked. No matter what genre you’re working in, these lessons will help you write more compelling scenes and stronger stories.
