184 - JOE DIMEO
Joe DiMeo is the recipient of the first successful face transplant and double hand transplant. Currently 25 years old, Joe lived a pretty normal life, until one morning in July, 2018, he was in a car accident and sustained third degree burns to 80% of his body. After two years of healing, challenging rehab, 20 reconstructive plastic surgeries and skin grafts, Joe underwent the 23 hour experimental transplant surgery in hope for a new trajectory toward function and normality. Four years later, Joe is living an active life, not without its challenges, but with optimism and independence. And today Joe joins me to share his difficult yet inspiring story.
