Season 2 Episode 4: In Conversation with Francisco Avalos Jr.: Let's Talk Mathematics in Sports!

In this episode, we explore the impact of mathematics in sports, from player statistics to match and game play analysis. We’ll dive into our experience transitioning from an amateur to a semi-professional in sports data analysis, offering advice to college undergrads interested in starting. Additionally, we’ll touch on the parallels between fantasy leagues and real sports, and how platforms like Kaggle and GitHub can help aspiring analysts gain visibility. We’ll also reflect on the influence of Moneyball in bringing mathematical analysis into the spotlight.About Francisco: (in his words)I'm Francisco Avalos Jr. and I currently work in the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Network space as an analyst. I have a passion for data analysis--in all its facets. For example, I lend my free time to serve as a statistical consultant for Statistics Without Borders--a non profit organization of the American Statistical Association. Personally, I have a passion for the analytical side of most sports, with a key interest in basketball and baseball. These interests have led to personal projects driven by my fantasy sport involvements. https://youtu.be/GhmTh5aJQaY?feature=shared
