2004 - CSPAN Press Conference | Situation in Sudan

SEPTEMBER 15, 2004

Situation in Sudan

Representatives of the Sudanese government and members of the Coalition to Give Peace a Chance in Sudan disagreed with Secretary of State Powell’s recent description of the situation in Darfur, Sudan as an example of genocide. They acknowledged a humanitarian crisis in the region, but disputed the idea that genocide was or had occurred. They also asserted that the government of Sudan did not participate in or condone any of the violence in the Darfur region. The panelists responded to audience questions.
