Thakur is director-general of The Justice Foundation: Kashmir Institute of International Affairs and the president of the World Kashmir Freedom Movement. Thakur is the son of exiled political activist, Ayyub Thakur and has continued his father's legacy in his own work advocating for Kashmir. Thakur's work has led him to become an analyst on Kashmiri affairs, and as such he has appeared on multiple news outlets such as Indus News, BBC and TRT world.
