Picture this: You're in Germany, 1828. You're cobbling together a new pair of shoes, maybe eating an afternoon snack of grass and bread germ. Suddenly a teenager emerges from the dark woods. His clothes are tattered. He cannot explain where he comes from. And he's clutching two letters written by his former captors. This boy, you learn a few weeks later, is named Kaspar Hauser.
Where did Kaspar Hauser come from? And, perhaps more pressingly: Why does somebody want him dead?
