Steel Magnolias was HUGE in 1989 when it came out. Matt was only 7 years old, so he can perhaps be forgiven for not watching it then. His parents may not have approved of him hearing some of Ouiser Boudreaux's colourful language... There's a lot to talk about with this film! So many wonderful strong female characters, so many head-scratching decisions related to Easter eggs, so many times where the 1980s felt like the 1950s, and Shirley MacLaine...just give us all of the Shirley MacLaine.
