Based on the Sierra Leone National Lifeskills manual “I am somebody”, this podcast is developed from recordings prepared for airing on Education Radio as part of the Radio Teaching Programme by the Teaching Service Commission and Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education while schools are closed due to Coronavirus mitigration measures. The programme is aired from 7:30-8pm five days per week (Monday to Friday) on 95.3fm targeting both in and out of school adolescent girls and boys aged 9-13.

What is Stress?

Today’s episode will focus on What is Stress?

Why do you think we choose this topic? As you become more independent you have to make decisions that will affect your future and you can also be under pressure from friends and family and schoolwork. All these things can have an impact on your happiness. It is important that we learn to recognize signs of stress and find ways to manage our stress in healthy ways.

After this episode, you will be able to:

1) Define the meaning of stress

2) Name things in your life that can cause feelings of stress

3) List the physical and emotional signs of feeling stress

4) Practice self-care skills to reduce your feelings of stress
