Based on the Sierra Leone National Lifeskills manual “I am somebody”, this podcast is developed from recordings prepared for airing on Education Radio as part of the Radio Teaching Programme by the Teaching Service Commission and Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education while schools are closed due to Coronavirus mitigration measures. The programme is aired from 7:30-8pm five days per week (Monday to Friday) on 95.3fm targeting both in and out of school adolescent girls and boys aged 14-19.

BRAC Reader Series - Broken Promise

Today’s episode will focus on the story called Broken Promise from the BRAC reader series.

This story is about a 15 years old girl called Nafisatu, who agrees to marry a man twice her age when he makes a promise to her mother. Nafisatu has no choice in whether to get marries since that was her father's decision. Will her new husband keep his promise?

After this episode, you will be able to:

1. Define child, early and forced marriage

2. Consider how child marriage can have serious consequences for adolescent girls in Sierra Leone

3. Explain how married couples can make use of family planning
