Based on the Sierra Leone National Lifeskills manual “I am somebody”, this podcast is developed from recordings prepared for airing on Education Radio as part of the Radio Teaching Programme by the Teaching Service Commission and Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education while schools are closed due to Coronavirus mitigration measures. The programme is aired from 7:30-8pm five days per week (Monday to Friday) on 95.3fm targeting both in and out of school adolescent girls and boys aged 14-19.

BRAC Reader Series - A Turnaround

Today’s episode will focus on the story called A Turnaround. This story is about a young girl called Taadi, as Taadi reaches adolescence she becomes distracted from her chores and school work. She uses her life skills in critical thinking and decision making her help her the part of your development from being a child to become an adult when you will seek independence. Independence is an important part of development, but you need to be careful when selecting the opportunities to become independent and not be to open to risks and dangers.

After this episode, you will be able to:

1) Define the terms rights and responsibilities

2) Explain the relationship between rights and responsibilities

3) Describe how the story or Taadi is a good example of how the right to education is related to the responsibility to work hard and apply yourself to your studies.
