Over the years, Joseph Walters, CTO of Schneider Electric, found ways to blend his love for business, finance, and sales with a people-focused approach, including finding strong mentors. That combination helped him develop a deeper understanding of how HR can drive business success: “In life, we can't create time, so it's really important for you to find great mentors around you that want to give back.” Walters believes mentorship was a game-changer in his career, and that having strong mentors early on were crucial in helping him sharpen his leadership skills and business mindset.

HRD TALK CA - Leveraging employee resource groups for maximum engagement and retention
In this episode of HRD Talk, reporter Stacy Thomas speaks with Canadian Western Bank’s Senior Assistant Vice President, Employee Experience & Culture Kate Lister about the success her organization has seen with employee resource groups. Since the pandemic, Canadian Western Bank’s employee resource groups have grown exponentially and have become a vital source of not only talent retention but talent promotion, as participants in ERGs gain access to visibility and opportunities to demonstrate skills they may have otherwise missed. ERGs are also an important networking tool for newcomers to Canada who may otherwise feel isolated. Lastly, Lister touches on company values, and how a revamp of their values enables employees to vocalize pride in their work and the work of their peers and the Bank’s initiatives.
