Für den New Yorker Autor Bill Milkowski war Jakob Bänschs "Opening" "eines der vielversprechendsten Debüts eines Trompeters seit Wynton Marsalis". Der Deutsche Jazzpreis für das Debütalbum des Jahres 2024 kam wenig überraschend. Höhepunkte von Bänschs Auftritt beim 55. Deutschen Jazzfestival Frankfurt und ein Gespräch mit dem Musiker werden ergänzt durch einen Ausblick auf sein im März erscheinendes 2. Album. Kritikerlob scheint auch hier schon vorprogrammiert, denn der blutjunge Trompeter braucht schon jetzt keine Session - mit, sagen wir mal, Till Brönner - zu scheuen, und ist zugleich auf dem Weg zu einer eigenen Handschrift als Komponist.
