Notes from the Underground (AmazonClassics Edition) by Fyodor Dostoyevsky | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Notes from the Underground (AmazonClassics Edition) Author: Fyodor Dostoyevsky Narrator: Pete Simonelli Format: Unabridged Length: 4 hrs and 32 mins Language: English Release date: 01-10-18 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Genres: Classics, World Literature Summary: Isolated from society in a tenement basement in St. Petersburg, a malicious former civil servant vents his resentments. In the rambling notes that follow, we are exposed to the inner turmoil of the Underground Man, who represents the voice of his generation. An emotional, paranoid knot of contradictions, the spiteful narrator is also desperate to join a society he loathes, if only to prove his superiority to it. Exploring themes of free will versus determinism, Dostoyevsky's existential exploration was written to challenge increasingly popular Western egoist philosophies. In the Underground Man, he found the embodiment of the antihero, whose behavior - like all human behavior - defies rationalization. AmazonClassics brings you timeless works from the masters of storytelling. Ideal for anyone who wants to read a great work for the first time or rediscover an old favorite, these new editions open the door to literature's most unforgettable characters and beloved worlds. Revised edition: Previously published as Notes from the Underground, this edition of Notes from the Underground (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

Trips to the Moon by Lucian of Samosata | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Trips to the Moon Author: Lucian of Samosata Narrator: William Martin Format: Unabridged Length: 3 hrs and 25 mins Language: English Release date: 01-03-18 Publisher: Audioliterature Genres: Classics, World Literature Summary: "Trips to the Moon" is a second century satire by Lucian of Samosata. He ridicules the tendencies of Greek historians to enlarge the explorations of their fellow citizens. He condemns these practices in the first part: "Instructions for Writing History". The next part of the work is "The True History", which depicts a trip to the moon as a mockery to his magnifying contemporaries. The audiobook ends with "Icaro-Menippus: A Dialogue". Excerpt from the first part: "Another famous writer has given an account of everything that passed, from beginning to end, in Armenia, Syria, Mesopotamia, upon the Tigris, and in Media, and all in less than five hundred lines; and when he had done this, tells us, he has written a history. The title, which is almost as long as the work, runs thus: 'A narrative of everything done by the Romans in Armenia, Media, and Mesopotamia, by Antiochianus, who gained a prize in the sacred games of Apollo.' I suppose, when he was a boy, he had conquered in a running match." Lucian of Samosata (c. 125-c. 180) was a rhetorician and satirist who wrote in Greek. He is noted for his witty and scoffing nature. ©2018 Audioliterature (P)2018 Audioliterature Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

The people around him can communicate with him by writing letters with a finger on the palm of his hand. Although communication is possible, mentally he always remains a boy of nine. Thanks to a somewhat thoughtless testament, Elias becomes the rightful owner of a tea-merchant firm. His half-brothers, the twins Hendrik and Hubert, manage the firm on his behalf. Elias lives in a house of his own at the outskirts of the town, looked after by his old nurse, and occupies himself by growing flowers and helping the needy. A quarrel between the twins in Elias's house escalates into a murder, and the novel has an open ending after a twist. Mosses from an Old Manse by Nathaniel Hawthorne | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Mosses from an Old Manse Author: Nathaniel Hawthorne Narrator: George Doyle Format: Unabridged Length: 18 hrs and 41 mins Language: English Release date: 12-25-17 Publisher: Audioliterature Genres: Classics, World Literature Summary: Many of the tales collected in "Mosses from an Old Manse" are allegories and, typical of Hawthorne, focus on the negative side of human nature. Hawthorne's friend Herman Melville noted this aspect in his review about Hawthorne and his "Mosses": "This black conceit pervades him through and through. You may be witched by his sunlight, transported by the bright gildings in the skies he builds over you; but there is the blackness of darkness beyond; and even his bright gildings but fringe and play upon the edges of thunder-clouds." William Henry Channing noted in his review of the collection that its author "had been baptized in the deep waters of Tragedy", and his work was dark with only brief moments of "serene brightness" which was never brighter than "dusky twilight". ©2017 Audioliterature (P)2017 Audioliterature Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

When "Oliver Twist" first appeared in Bentley's Miscellany in February 1837, Mudfog was described by Dickens as the town where Oliver was born and spent his early years, making "Oliver Twist" a continuation of "The Mudfog Papers". This allusion was removed when the novel was published as a book, under the title "The Mudfog Papers and Other Sketches" (1837). "The Mudfog Papers" relates the proceedings of a fictional society, the Mudfog Society for the Advancement of Everything, a Pickwickian parody of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. ©2017 Audioliterature (P)2017 Audioliterature Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com
