Dr. Megan Benka-Coker is an assistant professor in the Health Sciences Department at Gettysburg College. She has a depth of knowledge and training in global health and environmental epidemiology. As a professor, she uses her experience to teach her students about the important topics surrounding public and global health; Dr. Benka-Coker is also a researcher, focused on addressing the health impacts of household air pollution and the benefits of transitioning to cleaner cook stoves. Join us as we step into her classroom today and hear firsthand what initiated her interest in epidemiology, and some of the personal and research experiences that furthered her passion for clean cooking around the globe. She is also going to discuss particulate matter, its presence in ambient and household air pollution, and the dire health impacts it causes around the world. Studies and research around this topic are important not only for quantitative purposes, but also allows research to help shape policy and demonstrate why health should be included in the global clean cooking conversation.
