Hill Havurah (www.hillhavurah.org) is an independent Jewish community in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC. After the Coronavirus pandemic turned the Havurah ("Fellowship") into a virtual community, Hill Havurah's Rabbi Hannah Spiro continued connecting the congregation with weekly Zoom chats with individual members of the Havurah, to talk about life, work, pandemic and spirituality. Havurah member Michael Svetlik spent three years in Poland as a Peace Corps Volunteer. It was there that he met his wife, also a Peace Corps Volunteer, and found inspiration for his professional career, working with emerging democracies and elections. It also was in Poland that he committed himself to a Jewish life, and to raising Jewish children. Rabbi Hannah spoke to Michael about his experience.
